The District The Council

Travel Warning (2.17pm Friday 18 April)

Waimate District Council Emergency Management Co-ordinator Hilary Botting advises motorists many roads in the district are currently affected by flood waters.  Some roads are impassable while others are effected by surface flooding.  Drivers are advised to proceed with caution as a number of these roads have no signage.  Please drive according to road conditions.

A Permanent Boil Water Notice has been issued for both the Waihaorunga and Cannington - Motukaika Rural Water Schemes.

Both schemes are in the process of assessing upgrade options to comply with the New Zealand Drinking Water Standards 2005 (Revised 2008) and until such time as to the implementation of real-time monitoring of the schemes, or the selection of an appropriate way forward, this notice will remain in place indefinitely.

There will be no operational changes to the scheme and Council will continue to test the scheme on a weekly basis.
