Changes to Refuse & Recycling Effective November 1st

Changes to Refuse & Recycling Effective November 1st

Refuse Bags for Urban Waimate – Bags will continue to be collected within the Urban boundaries of Waimate.  The bag price will be $4.
To use up the existing stock of refuse bags, stickers will be sold.  These $3 stickers will need to placed onto bags to make them eligible for collection from November 1st.  Stickers can only be purchased from the Local Government Centre and will be available from late October.  WDC bags without these stickers will not be collected.

Refuse Bins for Urban & Outer Urban Waimate - Those rate payers who currently have refuse wheelie bins will retain that weekly service, but will have a smaller 80L bin at an annual cost of $220.  Replacement bins will be delivered during collections on the 28th & 29th of October.

To achieve the best possible outcome for a user pays system there will be strict monitoring of bins & bags to ensure that the appropriate types of waste are in the appropriate receptacles.  Green waste and recyclables cannot be placed in the refuse bin or bags!  Further information will be coming your way on this subject.

Green waste – unfortunately there will be no collection service for green waste.  Due to the low number of residents requesting a green waste bin, it would be uneconomic for the contractor to provide this service.

Recycling– unchanged for residential, however we are pleased that Waimate Urban businesses will now be able to use this service, if they wish to do so.

Rural Wheelie Bin Collection:
First fortnightly collection will be the 10th of November.  (Last collection on weekly service will be the 27th of October).

Rural Townships will have the option of 240L bins emptied fortnightly; however they will no longer have a bag collection option.

2 new Rural Recycling drop-off sites, one at Willowbridge and one at Holme Station Corner.  These will be in place from November 1st.

While it is never possible to meet everyone’s needs, we have endeavoured to meet the needs of as many residents as possible.
Please watch your letter box, as more detailed information will be delivered to you before the new service begins in November.
