Rates Rebates

Please note:  This year rebate applications can not be made until November.  This is due to the late publication of the Long Term Council Community Plan.

The Rates Rebate Scheme will continue to run in the 2009/10 rating year and the maximum rebate has increased from $530 to $550. A new application must be placed each rating year, so those people who were eligible last year must apply again this year even if their financial situation has not changed.

The Rates Rebate Scheme benefits people who pay rates for the home in which they live, and whose incomes are low. People who are eligible for a Rates Rebate will have the Rebate credited to their rates account.

In order to claim a Rates Rebate:

  • You must pay rates for the home you live in.
  • The address you pay rates on must principally be your home.
  • You must declare your income received for the last financial year (if living with a partner or joint home owner their income must be included).

The amount of Rebate that you receive depends on your total income, how much your rates are and whether you have any dependants.
For example, a couple where both partners are receiving New Zealand Superannuation ($27,570 approx) and have rates of $1,600, could possibly receive a rebate of $160.

If you think that you may be eligible for a Rates Rebate please call 689 8079 to make an appointment to discuss your situation with Nicky, the Rates Rebate Officer.
