WAIMATE CENTENNIAL SCHOOL

Mission Statement:   'A safe, caring and supportive learning environment in which all children will learn'.

School Culture:   We value children, teachers, support staff and parents/caregivers.

We

  • have a child centred philosophy
  • value each person in our school community
  • have good communication between school and home
  • value reading, writing and mathematics
  • take pride in our physical environment
  • encourage each person to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour

Resources:

Resource strengths include a caring, dedicated and enthusiastic staff and a Board of Trustees committed to maintaining high standards.  All classrooms have recently been renovated and the grounds are spacious and well maintained.

We have computers in every classroom, a computer suite and a 'pod' of eight laptops that circulate around the rooms for children to use.  Our library is well resourced and managed and we have modern audio-visual equipment, Reading Recovery and current curriculum resources.

We are a Duffy 'Books in Homes' school, participate in the 'Fruit in Schools' scheme and we involve children and caregivers in our health team as physical activity leaders.

Highlights during our school year include:

  • Camp week in March
  • Book week in June
  • Swim week in December

Please feel free to visit at anytime during normal school hours and see the school at work - we welcome visitors!
