THE 2009 EVENT WILL NOT BE STAGED
Seddon Square - Waimate
The South Canterbury Busking Festival has become one of the regions major events attracting some 5,000 visitors to the town.
This day offers the family free fun filled entertainment featuring International Buskers fresh from performing at the World Buskers Festival in Christchurch. Each year sees a diverse and talented line-up of artists with acts from United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Europe performing alongside their New Zealand counterparts.
Busking is any street entertainment - stationary, roving or staged and performed for the public. Buskers come in all shapes and forms including acrobats, comedians, contortionists, dancers, escapologists, fire eaters to name a few.
Budding local buskers are also given the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.
Another feature of the day is the market stalls selling a variety of products from plants, upmarket art and crafts, jewellery, clothing. Food lovers are also well catered for with international flavours including Swiss, Turkish, Chinese as well as the kiwi favourites - BBQ, hot dogs, candy floss.
2008 Busking Lineup included..
Comic Magician Kenneth Lightfoot performed a comedy magic show in which not much in the way of magic happened but his dry sense of surrel humor kept the audience smiling and laughing all the same!
Dan Tastik spent the past five years touring the planet doing shows. Whether it's improvisation, circus skills, standup comedy or a technical juggling routine using a baby on a string, this tube-bred genuine circus oddity has what is needed to make people laugh, wince and applaud wildly. You may well see contortion, juggling, card manipulation and dumb physical comedy. Or a rant about ducks - it can vary!
FireNix has entertained and amazed audiences all over the world. His Street Theatre Show has all the elements of classic Street Theatre comedy, plenty of audience interaction and involvement, juggling all or none of the following: balls, clubs and machetes..on Fire!! You may also see whip juggling, bee juggling (yes Bee's!), manipulation, mime, the 'Party Popper of Doom' and the finale - 'The Coat Hanger of Death'. The mind boggles!!
Sam Wills New Zealand's foremost funny freak made his way to the Busking Festival with more stunts, more mayhem and more stupidity than you could shake a stick at! With cucumbers, orange juice and various weapons of (not so) mass destruction, Sam is a one man recipe for disaster that will have you in stitches...no really, he may actually have you in stitches!!
With multiple awards that include 'Best Show' at the NZ Comedy Festival and the prestigious Billy T James Award, Sam is a crowd favourite with audiences at home and abroad. Quite simply, he's a freak you can take home to meet your Mum!
Felicity Redman (one of the two sopranos) from the United Kingdom has “looks to die for and a voice that will knock your socks off" to quote just one Scottish photographer.
Felicity’s unique blend of sound brings classical music to 21st Century audiences. Wearing dazzling and dramatic dresses, her tiny frame defies the mind when you hear the sound she produces.
Audiences experience a spectacular visual and audible feast, which both stirs and engulfs the senses.
Dr Silly Billy D’Clown
A well known favourite with kids young and old. This colourful character enthrals children as he creates balloon animals, flowers and surprises that seem to come to life in their hands!
