Meridian Energy are delighted to be sponsoring the Waimate Christmas Lights Spectacular for another year.
Waimate Christmas Lights Spectacular was initiated for the purpose of encouraging the community to put some magic back into Christmas. The event has grown over the years and the 2004 event saw a record thirty entries.
With many first time entrants and even a street entering organisers were thrilled with the enthusiasm of the contestants many saying it's not the possibility of winning the competition but the fun and enjoyment they have putting together their displays, helped by family, friends and neighbours and this, in essence, is what this competition is all about.
'The enjoyment on the faces of the families viewing the displays is well worth the effort of putting together this competition' said competition organiser Donette Fargher. 'It has certainly captured the imagination of the public and started some family traditions which is great'.
