Why Consultation with Organisations is Important

The Local Government Act 2002 requires Councils to take a long term view of understanding their community’s desired outcomes and to actively seek the involvement of individuals and organisations who also seek to advance Community Outcomes.

How Waimate District Council is Progressing it’s Community’s Outcomes

Waimate District Council has completed a consultation with its community and identified our District’s Community Outcomes.

In order to progress the achievement of Community Outcomes, Council has then identified strategic objectives which serve the Community Outcomes.

The community’s Strategic Objectives represent the physical features and services that, when in existence, identify that an Outcome has been achieved.
For example; the community has identified “Adequate Health Services” as a required Outcome.  The physical features of the outcome will include such things as:

• Doctors being in place;
• Health facilities existing;
• Ambulance services meeting required service levels;
• Etc/

Other Organisations have a role in achieving Waimate District’s Strategic Objectives.

Waimate District Council recognises that although it may have a strong role in the achievement of strategic objectives to progress community outcomes, the input and support of many other organisations is vital.

What this Means for Organisations

Waimate District Council has identified that we should establish a useful working relationship with many organisations.

Upcoming Meetings

Waimate District Council has initiated a forum where organisations with like objectives can get together to collectively progress strategic objectives.

Council has created four groups in relation to the four well-beings recognised by the Local Government Act 2002 (social, cultural, environmental and economic).  These groups take the form of focus groups with a wide base of invitees, they ideally meet 3 times each year, and provide for all participants to supply agenda items for discussion.
