General Rates - Urban and Rural
Land used for other than electricity generation, charges based on capital value. Rates collected used for that portion of the Council services of public accountability, community services and amenities (except public toilets and library), civil defence, rural fire protection, cemtery, regulatory services, promotions, roading, forestry establishment, economic development and airport, attributed to the district as a whole as per Council's Funding Policy.
Civic Amenity Rate
Three different level of rate, Waimate Ward, former Deep Creek Ward and all other areas of the Waimate District to pay for the Council services of community grants, solid waste disposal, library, parks, parks and reserves, public toilets and swimming pool.
Waimate Urban Sewer Charge
Is charged to each rateable property to which a sewer is or can be (a lesser charge) connected. Additional charges for properties with more than two toilets. To pay for the Waimate sewerage scheme.
St Andrews Sewer Charge
Is charged to each seperately rateable property connected to the St Andrews urban sewer scheme.
Refuse Collection
Charged to properties with a building erected on them and within the Council's collection route (except Hakataramea) to pay for collection costs.
Wheelie Bins
Charged to properties which have requested to have wheelie bins. Charge based on zoning whether urban or rural to pay for the collection and disposal of refuse.
Water Charges
Charged to properties connected (or for urban properties if capable of being connected) to a WDC water scheme. Waimate urban water scheme - a charge per each seperately occupied property or portion of porperty, (lesser charge for properties capable of connection but not connected) an additional charge by water meter for properties with extra-ordinary water usage. Rural water schemes (except Downlands) - are charged per literage capable of being supplied. Downlands water scheme (adminstered by Timaru District Council) has seperate charges for urban domestic, school, extra-ordinary usage, rural service, rural usage, to pay for water scheme costs.
Community Centre Fees
Are charged to each dwelling within a community centre district, to pay for costs of the community centre.
Elephant Hill Drainage
Charged to properties within the Elephant Hill River District according to Class A (more flood prone), Class B (less flood prone) to pay for drainage costs within the Elephant Hill District.
Inspection of Rates Information Database (RID) and Rates Records
Ratepayers may inspect Council's RID at Council's office, Local Governemnt Centre, Queen Street, Waimate during office hours. A computer terminal is available for public access, free of charge, although a small charge may apply if printouts are required.
Objection
Ratepayers may object to any of the information included in the RID and rates record using the provisions of S29 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002.
