Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund

The Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund is designed to help subsidise travel for rural junior teams aged between 5-19 years, removing the barrier of travel cost so they can compete in regular sporting competition. The fund is administered on behalf of Sport NZ by eligible Territorial Authorities across New Zealand. It is currently administered in Waimate by Council and funded at $10,000 per annum.

Applications

Council receive applications on a six monthly basis, typically in October and April each year. For the exact closing dates, please contact the Grants Administrator at info@waimatedc.govt.nz or phone +64 3 689 7771.

Eligibility

The rural travel fund is not provided for the purpose of travel to regional or national events.

Application for the rural travel fund is open to rural sports clubs and rural school teams with young people aged between 5 and 19 years who require subsidies to assist with transport expenses to local sporting competitions.

The following criteria shall be applied when considering applications for funding –

“a school club team participating in regular local sport competition out of school time, that excludes inter school and intra school competitions played during school time”

and/or

“a sports club team participating in organised, regular sport competition through club membership outside of school time”.
