Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund
The purpose of the fund is to provide a travel subsidy for sporting clubs and schools competing in local sports competitions. Currently funded at $10,000 per annum.
Applications
Council receive applications on a six-monthly basis, typically in April and October each year. For the exact closing dates, please contact the Grants Administrator at info@waimatedc.govt.nz or phone +64 3 689 7771.

Eligibility
The rural travel fund is not provided for the purpose of travel to regional or national events.
Application for the rural travel fund is open to rural sports clubs and rural school teams with young people aged between 5 and 19 years who require subsidies to assist with transport expenses to local sporting competitions.
The following criteria shall be applied when considering applications for funding –
“a school club team participating in regular local sport competition out of school time, that excludes inter school and intra school competitions played during school time”
and/or
“a sports club team participating in organised, regular sport competition through club membership outside of school time”.

Grant Accountability
Please complete the Grant Accountability Form within one year of funds being allocated. As part of the accountability you will need to attach:
- Receipts of Rural Travel Grant allocations
- Rural Travel Grant bank account statements
- Any other supporting documents
