Skating at The Event Centre.

Every Monday afternoon during school term the Event Centre echoes to the sounds of happy children involved in In-Line Skating. This is one of the most popular activities at the centre and there is always a crowd of young skaters eager to get on the floor.

Skating is under the watchful eye of Cheryl  Begg who as a 3 time World Champion skater provides expert coaching advice and encouragement in a positive learning environment.

Beginners and advanced skaters are all catered for and even a few parents have been known to join in.Skating takes place between 3 .00pm and 4.00pm and costs $4.00 per person and includes skate hire  - just bring your own socks and helmet.

Both Cheryl and her husband Bill have a world- wide reputation for producing champion skaters and it is fantastic to think that they are here in the Event Centre sharing this knowledge and experience with our local children.

Also watch for skating sessions which will be a part of our next school holiday programme. These sessions were extremely popular in our January programme.

Waimate Senior Social Sports Club

Started 31 years ago and is still going strong. Originally started as a winter activity group, the club has grown and now operates from January through to the beginning of December every Thursday afternoon between 1.00pm and 3.30pm and is proud to be among the first users of the modern facilities of  new Waimate Events Centre.

Every Thursday, rain or shine, the club meets to play badminton , indoor bowls,  table tennis and darts.  The Indoors bowls is very popular and the club can have as many as 3 mats in operation, they have also added a second table tennis table to cater for demand. At the end of the session they finish up with a very sociable afternoon tea.

The cost for this is only $5.00 which includes the supply of all  equipment , the facility rental and tea and biscuits. The emphasis is on the social aspect and no scores are kept with  enjoyment  and participation the key elements.

The club caters to all levels of ability. I can speak from experience having played my first games of badminton last week and received lots of encouragement and advice. It was great fun and certainly got my blood flowing.

For new residents to town it is a great opportunity to get regular exercise and at the same time to meet a friendly group of like-minded people.

Regular exercise is good for both the body and mind and what better way to do it than in a modern, purpose-built facility with a great bunch of people and a wide variety of activities.

So dust off your sneakers and come down to the Waimate Event Centre on Thursday at 1.00pm and experience the Senior Social Sports Club.
