Precautionary Boil Water Notice Lifted - Downlands (excl. St Andrews)
DOWNLANDS WATER SUPPLY UPDATE
Please be advised, the precautionary boil water notice for Downlands users has now been lifted permanently, however this DOES NOT apply to those in St Andrews or Waitohi.
Here's some more information from our colleagues at Timaru District Council.
With the official openining of the new Te Ana Wai Treatment plant for the Downlands scheme, we're pleased to say we can remove the boil water notice for the majority of Downlands customers.
The state of the art treatment plant and reservoirs are a significant improvement of the quality of the scheme in most cases should prevent us having to put a boil water notice in place again.
We're sorry that customers in St Andrews will have to boil their water a bit longer as we're still working on upgrades to the Springbrook water treatment plant. The boil water notice for this area will be removed when this upgrade is complete.
The Waitohi/Kakahu zone has a bit more of a complex issue which will take some time to resolve. We have a section of pipeline in this area that has failed and which requires a complex repair which could take quite a while. Until this is fixed, the water to this area is sourced from Waitohi, which does not have treatment for protozoa, and so it is important that you continue to boil water used for drinking, food preparation, teeth brushing etc.
Remember, if you're not sure what part of the scheme you are on, you can check your own situation by referring to the water maps and typing in your address.
