Conditions on Hakataramea Pass Road are no longer suitable for regular vehicles, and the road is open only to Four-Wheel Drive vehicles which have good ground clearance.

Hakataramea Pass Road and Meyers Pass Road are now open with a warning in place about winter conditions. Please use caution and drive with frost, snow and ice in mind.

Extended Road Closure: Hakataramea Pass Road and Meyers Pass Road
15 July 2026

Hakataramea Pass Road is closed from the Hays/Round Hill Station boundary cattle stop. Meyers Pass Road is also closed. This is due to current winter conditions, including prolonged frost, frost heave damage, and rapid thawing.

To protect public safety and prevent further damage to the road, the road closures are expected to remain in place until 1 September 2026.
