Official Information Requests

Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA)

Waimate District Council is governed by the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 and is committed to promoting openness and transparency in all our dealings.

We make a large amount of information available through our website, however, if you cannot find the information you want, please contact us.

Should any request for information be refused, reasons for that refusal will be given. Any person dissatisfied with our decision is entitled to have the decision reviewed by the Ombudsman.


In some cases a charge may be made for supplying information. This will apply particularly where considerable staff time is required to research the information. For more information check our Fees & Charges (Information Services).

How long will it take to process my request?

We will acknowledge your request and a decision on whether to release the information will be made within 20 working days. Often you will receive notification of this decision at the same time the requested information is provided to you.

However, if your request is complex, involves a large amount of research and collation, or requires us to consult with other parties, and we cannot provide you with the information within 20 days, we may extend the time limit. We will let you know if we need to do this.

If the information you want is held by another organisation covered by the Act, we may transfer your request to that agency. If we do this, we will let you know within 10 working days of receiving your request.
