Cannington and Maungati leading the way with Civil Defence Community Response Plan

Civil Defence volunteers Trevor Nicol and Richard Patterson have been acknowledged for their work in preparing Waimate District’s first ‘Community Response Plan’.

At a special morning tea this morning at Council, Mayor Rowley thanked both men for taking up the challenge to produce a Community Response Plan for the Cannington and Maungati communities in conjunction with Council’s Civil Defence Emergency Management Coordinator, Hilary Botting.

He congratulated Richard and Trevor for their long-standing commitment to supporting their local communities and added that he hopes other people in other parts of the Waimate District will take up the challenge and prepare their own Community Response Plans.

The Community Response Plan includes important information such as Waimate District’s  risk profile and impact on the community; names and contact numbers of the community representatives/liaison officers and their roles; information on ‘being prepared’ and response procedures.

Each household in the Cannington and Maungati area will soon receive their own copy.
