Annual Report 2024/25 Adopted
Waimate District Council has officially adopted its Annual Report for 2024/25, marking the fourth year of the Long Term Plan 2021–2031 and the Enhanced Annual Plan 2024/25.
The report reflects on Council’s financial and non-financial performance and highlights our achievements.
Key highlights were the completion of the library extension and Council Chambers refurbishment and the lodgement of a resource consent application for a new water source for the Lower Waihao Rural Water Scheme.
On the finance front, Council recorded an operating surplus of $1.434 million compared to a forecast deficit of $0.524 million. This was largely due to recognising income for assets which were vested (gifted) to Council, previously unrecognised (found) assets, insurance proceeds from the Waimate Event Centre fire, Three Waters Better Off Funding income from the Government initiative, and reduced expenditure compared to what was expected across a variety of areas. The surplus has enabled Council to delay borrowings and save on interest costs as a result.
Mayor Craig Rowley said, “The report reflects our commitment to delivering core services while navigating significant challenges. We worked hard to maintain local control of water services and ensured our community’s voice was heard in every decision”.
Chief Executive Stuart Duncan added, “Despite economic pressures and regulatory changes, Council has achieved strong outcomes for the district. From securing a new water source to upgrading community facilities, we remain focused on practical solutions that benefit our residents”.
Council acknowledges the challenges ahead but remains focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for the district. We thank our staff, elected members, and most importantly, the community for their continued support and contribution.
