Waimate Lakes Camping
Camping is a time-honoured tradition for many Kiwi families and Waimate has camping grounds in some of the most spectacular places in New Zealand!
Council provides four camping grounds in the Waitaki Valley and for many families they have been holiday destinations for years, even generations!
- Fisherman’s Bend Reserve
- Briar’s Gully
- Te Akatarawa Reserve
- Waitangi Reserve
- Waitangi East
Along the shorelines of Lakes Aviemore and Waitaki, these camping grounds offer a range of different activities:
- Swimming
- Boating
- Water Skiing
- Canoeing
- Picnics
- Tramping
- Fishing
They are ideal places for getting away from the busyness of everyday lives and great places for relaxation and family fun.
What facilities do they have?
Facilities vary from site to site with toilets, porta-pottie stations, and drinking water. Tent and caravan sites (without power) are also available as well as boat ramps.
Rubbish and recycling
Rubbish and recycling facilities are available at all camping grounds. As well as disposing general household rubbish, you can recycle:
- Glass - green, white, and brown
- Cardboard
- Paper
- Plastic (1-6)
Are they open all year?
The season opens in September and closes in May.
Please note: Tickets to be purchased on arrival and be clearly displayed at all times. EFTPOS is available. All caravans and tents left on site during the season MUST have a season ticket displayed at all times or they will be removed.
