Representation Review
Waimate District Council is undertaking the mandated six yearly representation review that will decide the process for the next two triennial elections, being 2025 and 2028. Between now and the end of 2023 the following matters will be decided:
1. Electoral system
The electoral system that will be used to count the votes for the next two elections. Council has decided that the First Past the Post (FPP) system is the most appropriate. Please see the following public notice for more information.
2. Review of ward boundaries
There will be a decision regarding the ward structure that we currently use with candidates standing for areas in the district, or perhaps moving to an “At Large” system of representation, where our entire district votes as one for all of the candidates.
3. Community boards
Our district does not have any.
4. Māori wards
At a workshop later this year Council will consider the introduction of Māori wards based on population.
