On Wednesday 14 October 2026, this year's Civic Awards celebrated the contribution of volunteers across the district.
Jim Anderson, Barbara Mewburn, Hermien Van'T Klooster and Pauline Habershon were recognised under the Individual Category, Macey Kate Guyton for the Youth Category, and the Waimate Community Vehicle Trust for the Group/Organisation Category.
The awards ceremony was the 17th held by Council, and it is a tradition that Mayor Craig Rowley is proud of. One thing united the winners on the night: they all showed humility and thanked those who supported their work or worked alongside them.
“It's important to recognise the dedicated people in our communities who make things tick,” says Mayor Rowley. “From volunteers who organise events, to those helping staff our ambulance and fire engines, to those driving our community vehicle service, supporting older residents or running our clubs and organisations.”
“While we've recognised a handful formally through these prestigious awards, we know there are many more deserving individuals who are the heartbeat of our communities. Our thanks go out to all those helping ensure the Waimate District is a great place to live and thrive.”
