At its meeting on Tuesday 21 July 2026, Council will consider a report on the Government’s Simplifying Local Government Head Start pathway.
$60k boost for community grants
A major funding boost is on the way for local groups, with community grants increasing from $10,000 to $60,000 a year – a sixfold jump that will make a real difference across the district.
Search is on for community heroes
Nominations have opened for the Waimate District’s 2026 Civic Awards, which recognise outstanding voluntary service across the district. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on 14 October 2026.
Community and sports grants awarded
Successful applicants for the latest round of Council grants have been announced with $6,684.90 of funding going to community projects and $6,079.92 going to district sports. A further $14,519.40 was awarded from the Sports NZ Rural Travel Grant to assist with travel costs for rural youth teams.
Red Cross living memorial
The life and achievements of local Red Cross members who have contributed significantly to the community will be commemorated with a living memorial at Knottingley Park and Arboretum.
