Welcome to another Newsline.
Local body elections are now just months away with nominations closing on 1 August. I’d like to encourage you to give serious thought to whether you or someone you know could make a real difference for the community by standing for Council. I can attest that civic service is life affirming and rewarding.
Long Term Plan Adopted
Council’s direction for the next nine years has been set following the adoption of the Long Term Plan 2025-2034. Council decided not to borrow additional funds to smooth rates, an approach that will save ratepayers from the burden of servicing additional debt and allows Council to allocate funds to core services.
Kerb, Channel and Footpath Renewal
Pedestrians can walk a little more safely, cars can cross more easily, and water can flow more freely after sections of footpath, kerb and stormwater channel have been replaced in Waimate township. The work was completed by Rooney Earthmoving between December 2024 and June 2025.
Sports and Community Grants Awarded
Successful applicants for the latest round of three grants have been announced with $12,656.08 of funding going to district sports and $4,737 going to community projects.
