Renewal of Water Mains in Glenavy
Work has begun on the renewal of the rural water mains in Glenavy township and, while there will be some disruption in the form of roadworks for the next month, the benefits for residents will be well worth it.
Long-Term Solution for Lower Waihao Rural Water Scheme
In August, Council lodged a resource consent application with Environment Canterbury to secure a new water source near Bells Pond, Ikawai, for the Lower Waihao Rural Water Scheme.
Council Submits Water Services Delivery Plan
Waimate District Council has submitted its Water Services Delivery Plan to the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), in line with the Local Water Done Well legislation. Adopted at an Ordinary Council meeting on 19 August, the plan sets out a clear and sustainable roadmap.
Community and Sports Grants Open
Applications for financial assistance are invited for three grants: Community Grant: Open to clubs and organisations which do not qualify for funding under the Creative Communities NZ Scheme. Sports Grant: Open to clubs and organisations for help with sporting endeavours. Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund: Designed to help subsidise travel for rural junior teams.
Big Easy Upgrade Continues
Whitehorse MTB Riders Inc has been awarded a Recreational Track Grant from Council for $10,000 excluding GST for the continued upgrade of the Whitehorse Big Easy to bring it in line with the New Zealand Cycle Trail Grade 2 standard.
Welcome for Japanese Exchange Students
Mayor Craig Rowley welcomed 13 exchange students from Japan on 11 August at a special function at the Waimate Event Centre. The students, from Nichidai-Tsurugaoka High School and Yasuda Junior High School, were studying at Waimate High School.
Rules for Roadside Grazing
Council would like to remind residents that it is prohibited to graze livestock on verges and berms in urban areas. It has come to our attention that there are many areas of temporarily fenced off areas in Morven particularly which should not be being used, and we would ask that these activities stop.
Dog Activities Summed Up
Council approved the Dog Control Annual Report 2024/25 at an Ordinary Council Meeting on 16 September 2025. The report, mandated under the Dog Control Act 1996, provided a snapshot of the 2,758 dogs within the Waimate District.
Revised Property Valuations Available
Every three years, property values across the district are reassessed – and the latest revaluations for the Waimate District Council have been completed by Quotable Value Ltd (QV).
LGOIMA Report 2024/25
Under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA) any person, group or organisation may request information from Council, which must be made available unless there is a good reason to withhold it. Between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025 Council received 623 official information requests.
