Learning from the Mayor
Twenty-one-year old Arlin Wikaira has taken a bold step to enrich his future. He is the first participant within the Waimate District to join the Mayoral facilitated Tuia programme which aims to develop the leadership of young Māori in communities across New Zealand.
Road Reconstruction Up 100%
Thanks to the funding approved by both Council and the New Zealand Transport Agency, the district now has 3.6km of newly sealed and reconstructed roads. This represents twice the length of end-of-life sealed road renewal compared to previous years.
Creative Communities Grants Awarded
Successful applicants for the latest round of the Creative Communities Scheme funding have been announced for the Waimate District with a total of $12,493.80 being awarded between six groups. Funded by Creative New Zealand and delivered in partnership with Council, the grants go towards local arts and culture projects.
