Rural Policing Proposal Draws Strong Response
A community meeting facilitated by Council on 15 August drew over 240 attendees, reflecting the deep concern across our district regarding proposed changes to rural policing by NZ Police.
Council Mourns Tom O’Connor
Council’s flag flew at half-mast on Friday 15 August 2025 as a mark of respect to Pareora-Otaio-Makikihi Ward Councillor Tom O’Connor who died on Wednesday 6 August 2025. Tom served the Waimate District Council with distinction since 2013. His leadership and vision were instrumental in shaping important initiatives.
Countdown To Camping
Air out your tent or kit out your caravan. There are just 16 days until campsites at the Waimate Lakes open on 13 September. Season tickets are $525 for two adults and two dependants. Tickets are available at Council, Kurow Caltex and the Lakes Camping Office at Waitangi East. You can also buy your ticket at Fisherman’s Bend through the Penny system.
Congratulations to our New Citizens
During a ceremony they are unlikely to forget, 23 people from our district received their citizenship certificates from Mayor Craig Rowley on Tuesday 19 August at the Waimate Event Centre. Eight countries were represented: Australia, Germany, Nauru, New Zealand, Philippines, Scotland, Tuvalu and the United Kingdom.
