Successful applicants for the latest round of Council grants have been announced with $6,684.90 of funding going to community projects and $6,079.92 going to district sports. A further $14,519.40 was awarded from the Sports NZ Rural Travel Grant to assist with travel costs for rural youth teams.
Recipients of Waimate District Council Community Grants
- Southern Cancer Society: $2,101 to provide petrol relief for Waimate patients and volunteers.
- Royal NZ SPCA: $1,500.99 to provide desexing vouchers to Waimate residents.
- Waimate Historical Society: $1,038 to buy dress forms for fragile and heavy clothing items in the collection.
- Bushtown Waimate Inc: $920 for signage promoting the Miniature Railway Train.
- Waimate Toy Library: $729.91 to replace broken and worn toys.
- Lavender League: $208 for advertising in the Waimate Trader to raise awareness of the group and $187 to run a Sweat with Pride free dance workout class.
Recipients of the Waimate District Council Sports Grants
- Waimate Basketball Association: $1,100 towards sending two female players to a Las Vegas Tournament and $2,460 to support six female qualifying players to attend the Basketball NZ Nationals.
- Waimate Swords Club: $1,500 to replace old and damaged equipment.
- Waimate High School: $1,019.92 towards the purchase of sports equipment.
