Nominations are open for the prestigious Waimate District Civic Awards which recognise community service in the voluntary sector. I urge you to put the names forward of those you have witnessed doing amazing things for our community. This is our opportunity to formally recognise their efforts and show our gratitude.
Nomination forms are available from Council’s main office, Waimate Event Centre, Waimate District Library and on Council’s website. Nominations close at 4pm on Tuesday1 September 2026.
Recently, the Acting Chief Executive and I met with Inspector Vicki Walker, the NZ Police Aoraki Area Commander. We were advised that there are currently four vacant positions at the Waimate Police Station, with two of those positions being covered by temporary staff from Timaru. We will continue to advocate for a strong local police presence and keep our community informed of any developments.
Finally, I encourage everyone to remain vigilant as reports of both online and in-person scams continue to increase. Be cautious when sharing personal information, whether online, over the phone or face-to-face. If something doesn’t feel right, take the time to check it out before taking action. If you’re unsure, talk to family and friends first.
