Waimate District Council is proud to announce that we are now a Tyrewise registered partner.
Tyrewise is New Zealand’s regulated product stewardship scheme for end-of-life tyres. The scheme tracks tyres via a network of registered participants throughout their life cycle to ensure they are recycled and repurposed into useful products.
Under the Tyrewise scheme, you can dispose of up to five clean, rimless pneumatic (air-filled) or solid tyres from motorised vehicles at no cost at the Waimate Resource Recovery Park.
Accepted tyres include those from cars, trucks and tractors. When you have a tyre replaced at a garage, participating workshops will also recycle your old tyre/s through the scheme.
Together, we are helping to reduce environmental harm from the 6.5 million tyres that reach the end of their life in New Zealand each year – many of which would otherwise end up stockpiled, dumped or sent to landfill.
The scheme operates under The Waste Minimisation (Tyres) Regulations 2023 which came into effect on 1 March 2024. To find out more, go to tyrewise.co.nz
