Council’s annual road resealing programme has begun and is due for completion in the second week of March, weather permitting.
Around 37 kilometres of resealing work will be delivered during this time with approximately 10% on urban streets and 90% on rural roads. This split reflects the overall size of the district’s sealed road network. Resealing locations are based on need and roads are grouped together where possible to keep costs down.
Regular resealing is one of the most cost-effective ways to protect our roads and avoid expensive rebuilds in the future. This proactive approach provides long-term value to ratepayers while keeping our road network safe for our community.
Resealing helps to:
- Keep water out of the pavement
- Extend the life of the road
- Maintain a safe driving surface
- Reduce long-term maintenance costs.
This is the second year of a two-year road resealing contract with Fulton Hogan Ltd, valued at a total of $2.4 million across both years.
