One club and one individual received grants from Creative New Zealand’s Creative Communities Scheme, with a total of $4,229.90 awarded.
Waimate Rotary Club received $3,965.40 for a pre-school music project called Bus Band & Music Mat. The nine-week music programme provides free Bus Band lessons and Music Mat sessions for pre-schoolers across three Waimate Early Childhood Education Centres and is delivered by Mrs A’s Music Bus.
Chantelle Cobby received $264.50 for the delivery of a creative writing workshop called In Our Twenties to a Waimate-based woman. The workshop offers one-to-one mentoring to wahine aged 20 to 29, as part of a nationwide women’s empowerment project.
Council receives applications for the Creative Communities Grants on a six-monthly basis, typically in March and September each year. We will advertise when the next round opens, including the closing date.
