A hugely important consultation, Local Water Done Well, is currently open until 12pm on 16 June and I want to encourage you to make a submission. For just a few minutes of your time, you can help us shape the future of water services for our district. The decision made will impact every person in our community for decades to come so it’s vital your voices are heard.
Local Water Done Well is the Government’s plan to address long-standing problems it sees with water services. This plan keeps water assets locally owned and recognises the importance of local decision making, so that communities and councils have the flexibility to choose the best way to deliver their water services.
We have two options: an internal water services unit (Council’s preferred option) or a three-council water services organisation. Even if you agree with our preferred option, we need to know. Go to waimatedc.govt.nz/yourwater to have your say.

On a lighter note, I’d like to applaud everyone involved in The Waimate Theatre Company’s production of The Sound of Music. What a phenomenal effort it was by the community with a huge cast and small army of volunteers.
