Did you know that you can still access library items even if you can’t make it in person to the library? The service that allows you to check out items from the Waimate Library without physically coming to the library has been running for five years and has now been renamed Books 2 You.
If circumstances make it difficult for you to visit the library in person, we want you to remain connected to everything the library offers – from books and publications to audio books and movies. Books 2 You supports people facing temporary or ongoing barriers to accessing the library.
Library members wishing to access this service need to fill in a simple application form and nominate a friend, neighbour or family member to pick up your books for you. Copies of the form can be emailed or completed with library staff over the phone. They are also available at the library.
If you’re unable to have your items collected by someone else, the library may be able to offer a delivery service for those living in Waimate. If you live outside of town, contact the library and staff will see what they can do to get your items to you.
“A service like this can be a lifeline for people who struggle to get out and about,” says Senior Librarian Tony Morton. “Books 2 You is about breaking down those access barriers and making it easy for people to use our library services from the comfort and safety of their own home.”
