You may have noticed that two of our playgrounds are sporting bright new colours. That’s thanks to a specialist team from Oamaru‑based company Creo who have been hard at work upgrading and resurfacing key play areas at Boland Park and Victoria Park.
Creo is a national leader in playground design and surfacing featured in playgrounds across New Zealand including the renowned Margaret Mahy playground in Christchurch and CPlay at Caroline Bay. Creo uses durable, colourful, and safety-focused rubber surfaces from Numat. The base shock-pad layer is 100% recycled rubber while the colour layer is chosen for its fade-resistant qualities.
Parks and Reserves Supervisor Grant Martin chose the colours to be vibrant and fun while also tying in with the botanical themes of our parks. This upgrade – including resurfacing the previously barked area at Boland Park with cushioned matting and reducing the edging to ground level – forms part of our Parks and Reserves maintenance programme and ensures our playgrounds are compliant with Playsafe Regulatory Standards.
Over time – typically around ten years – ground surfaces naturally settle and compact. If left unaddressed, this can affect the stability of play equipment and reduce the cushioning needed to protect children from falls.
By resurfacing, we’re making sure these popular parks remain fun, vibrant, and safe.
