Successful applicants for the latest round of Council grants have been announced with $4,063.65 of funding going to community projects and $4,604 going to district sports. There were no applicants for the Sports NZ Rural Travel Grant in this funding round.
Recipients of Waimate District Council Community Grants
- Waimate Whitehorse Lions Club, $923.50 towards the purchase of a microphone and speaker system to use at events and meetings.
- Pound Paws Rescue, $678.90 for the neutering and spaying of two dogs from a total goal of desexing 20 dogs in the Waimate District to reduce unwanted pups.
- Positive Waimate, $401.25 towards the cost of printing maps and a contribution to vehicle costs for the ‘Cruising Waimate’ project which aims to attract cruise ship passengers to Waimate via tours.
- Waimate Community Market, $2,060 for the purchase of jute bags with the Community Market logo to sell as a fundraiser to pay for entertainers to perform regularly at the market and as a promotional item.
Recipients of Waimate District Council Sports Grants
- Waimate Disc Golf Inc, $3,000 towards hiring a Tournament Director for the National Disc Golf Tournament to be hosted by Waimate Disc Golf Club at Knottingley Park in March 2026.
- Waimate Caledonian Society Inc, $1,604 towards hiring quality judges and the purchase of trophies and ribbons for the 150th Waimate Caledonian Games to be held in Victoria Park on 31 January 2026.
