Those who have been missing their workouts are just months away from being able to access the facilities with the Waimate Gym expected to open by the end of September 2025.
Following last year’s fire at the Waimate Event Centre, remedial work, being carried out by Timaru Construction Ltd, is on schedule. The squash courts reopened on 7 July allowing members to resume play and the main rebuild of the gym has commenced.
The building is now completely watertight, the roof replacement is complete, and work has begun on the walls, floors and suspended ceiling. Where possible, upgrades have been included such as improved flashings and sanitary features (with approved Council funding of $6,460 excluding GST).
All enquiries about memberships to the gym and the squash courts need to be directed to Waimate Gym and Waimate Squash Club.
