Under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA) any person, group or organisation may request information from Council, which must be made available unless there is a good reason to withhold it. Between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025 Council received 623 official information requests.
Information requests have a financial impact across the organisation as it can take up a considerable amount of staff time and resources to collate information to administer each request. Council does not charge a fee for any request that can be administered within one hour. Often, complex requests can span multiple departments and take a lot longer than an hour. In such cases, Council may provide the requester with a quote according to our fees and charges, and with the ability for them to refine or narrow their request.
