Dog Activities Summed Up

Council approved the Dog Control Annual Report 2024/25 at an Ordinary Council Meeting on 16 September 2025.

The report, mandated under the Dog Control Act 1996, provided a snapshot of the 2,758 dogs within the Waimate District. The cherry on the cake is that for the fourth consecutive year, our district’s registration rate was 100% for all known dogs.

Council received 205 dog-related requests for the year, which was a reduction from last year’s 242. The majority of these were for wandering and barking dogs. Seven dogs were impounded with all of them reconnected with their owners. The district’s menacing and dangerous dogs were fully compliant with all specified requirements. Council is undertaking prosecution following a dog attack in December 2024.
