Successful applicants for the latest round of three grants have been announced with $12,656.08 of funding going to district sports and $4,737 going to community projects.
Sports NZ Rural Travel Grant
A total of $8,340 of funding was awarded to three clubs to help cover their travel costs:
- Waimate Gymnastics Club: $1,500.
- Waimate Junior Soccer Club: $5,240.
- Waimate Rugby Football Club: $1,600.
Waimate District Council Sports Grant
A total of $4,316.08 was awarded to two groups:
- Waimate High School Parent Teacher Association: $1,541.08 towards the cost of purchasing a screen-printed gazebo for the high school students at sports events.
- Waimate Athletics Club: $2,775 towards the cost of three athletes attending the Coast 2 Coast athletics competition in Australia.
Waimate District Council Community Grants
A total of $4,737.58 was awarded to three groups:
- Waimate Parish: $2,300 for restoration and repair of the pipe organ at St Augustine’s Church in Waimate.
- Waimate Toy Library: $500 to purchase imaginative and creative toys.
- Waimate Croquet Club: $1,937.58 to pay for lawn care chemicals for treatment and maintenance of the lawn.
Council invites applications for these grants on a six-monthly basis, typically in April and October. Each funding round is advertised when it becomes available.
